The Miami Heat have been all but eliminated from playoff contention as the struggling Eastern Conference franchise has now lost four consecutive games. Not only that, but the Heat made some more news on Sunday afternoon as they reportedly parted ways with forward Rodney McGruder.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Heat have elected to waive McGruder.

Bobby Marks of ESPN also uncovered an important tidbit with regards to Miami's decision to waive Rodney McGruder this late in the season.

The 27-year-old forward is currently in the midst of his third NBA season, all of which have been spent with the Heat.

After originally breaking into the league back in 2016-17, McGruder has since made 161 career regular season appearances, with 65 of those games coming this season.

For his NBA career as a whole, McGruder is averaging 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists over 23.6 minutes per game. It is also worth noting that the veteran swingman has started 112 times as a NBA player while doing so on 45 different occasions for the Heat in 2018-19.

As it stands today, the Heat remain in line to finish in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings, which would pit them on outside looking in at the postseason when all is said and done.
