Herro's second-quarter scoring explosion came on the heels of Hawks rising star point guard Trae Young leaving the game in the same period after stepping on Heat wing Justise Winslow's foot and going down, spraining his ankle. Young, 21, needs help off the floor and could not put any weight on his foot/ankle. In the wake of last season's Rookie of the Year runner-up's absence, Herro, selected by the Heat with the 13th overall pick in June's draft, added insult to injury with his hot hand.
Herro has played off the bench for the Heat for the first time tonight, previously starting in Miami's first three games. However, four-time All-Star Jimmy Butler made his debut for the Heat on Tuesday, pushing the 19-year-old Kentucky product to the pine while Butler and impressive undrafted free agent shooting guard Kendrick Nunn continues to start.
