Malcolm Brogdon has yet to play a game in this postseason, but the third-year Milwaukee Bucks guard is bound to fetch a big-time raise when his deal is due in free agency.
According to Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times, Brogdon, who will be a restricted free agent, could make between $14-to-$16 million per year in his next deal, a major raise from the $1.5 million he made this season as part of his rookie contract.
“There are several teams that need a quality guard,’’ the official said of the 26-year-old Brogdon. “I would say he’ll get between $14 million to $16 million. That would be my guess.’’
Brogdon proved a vital part of the well-oiled machine the Bucks proved to be during the regular season, winning an NBA-best 60 games.
The Virginia product was named the Rookie of the Year in 2017 and has only gotten better every season to follow, becoming only the eighth member of the exclusive 50-40-90 club after shooting 50.5% from the field, 42.6% from distance and a standout 92.8% from the foul line, which led the league for most of the season.
Brogdon's uncanny poise, strong basketball IQ and heady play made him not only a starter in Mike Budenholzer's lineup, but a vital part of the roster with his defense — able to defend one through three with formidable efficiency.
The 26-year-old averaged 15.6 points and 4.5 rebounds this campaign and is bound for a good payday as a restricted free agent, thought some are still concerned about his foot injury (plantar fascia), given that it's been a recurring issue throughout his career.
“I’ll be honest with you; we’re still concerned about his foot problem like we did when he came out in the draft,’’ an NBA executive said earlier this week. “I want to see how he does in the playoffs. I think he needs to play in the playoffs to show teams he’s fine. That’s going to tell what kind of deal he gets this summer.’’
The Bucks will have the ability to match any offer sheet he signs in the offseason.
