The San Francisco Giants have been the biggest surprise in the entire MLB and have had the best record for quite some time. The Giants recently locked up Brandon Crawford, and now they are trying to lock him veteran catcher Buster Posey, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Posey sat out the 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and 2021 has been a huge success for the Giants vet. On the year, he has a .330 batting average with 15 home runs and 39 RBIs. The former first-round pick has shown that he isn't regressing anytime soon.

As Heyman reports, it won't be a short deal either. They hope to keep him for at least a couple of seasons, so it will be interesting to see what happens regarding this matter.

Plus, with the likelihood of the designated hitter coming to the National League, it could pave the way for highly talented prospect Joey Bart to learn from Posey, and potentially have the veteran slot in as a designated hitter to give him some break on the wear and tear from the game.

The Giants acquired Kris Bryant at the MLB trade deadline, and suddenly they look like a team that is going to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres for the next couple of years, barring some sudden collapse.
