The conversation surrounding the NBA and its officiating crews are reaching new heights, as the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors ongoing playoff series has already been used as a reason for the need to overhaul the referees. According to Utah Jazz superstar Rudy Gobert, however, he just wants referees to be honest.

Speaking to TMZ Sports out on the street earlier this week, Gobert said he didn’t agree with the thought that the NBA should be using robotic referees or even take the officials off the court. “I think it would take something away from the game if you do that,” he said. To Gobert, the referees are too essential to the game, as long as players are able to speak with them honestly. “Dialogue is the most important thing.”

During the fiasco of Game 1 between the Rockets and Warriors, Gobert took to Twitter to throw his own shots at the referees, lamenting that the Jazz didn’t get the same treatment the Warriors seemed to when they played Houston during Round 1.

After the first game ended, the Rockets were quick to immediately release a report the team had been working on that alleges the Warriors are officiated differently. While the team hasn’t spoken too much on it, both teams have been asked consistently about the officiating, with both teams unsurprisingly complaining that they think more could be done in their favor.

Regardless of the current situation, it seems as if the debate surrounding officials is reaching its breaking point, as this NBA season has seen more arguing with referees than seemingly any other season. While we likely aren’t going to be seeing robotic officials or computers making the call anytime soon, who knows what this offseason will bring in terms of change.
