The Los Angeles Lakers continue to try and fill out their roster as they wait for a decision from Kawhi Leonard. Earlier today, the team agreed to a one-year, $2.1 million deal with free agent Troy Daniels, according to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Free agent Troy Daniels has agreed to a one-year, $2.1M with the Lakers, agent Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports tells @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Daniels gives the Lakers an elite shooter to pair with LeBron James and Anthony Davis and does not affect the team’s cap space.

The deal isn’t expected to put much of a dent into the Lakers cap space, and gives the team an elite shooter to come off of the bench. Although he was underutilized in his time with the Phoenix Suns, Daniels has proven to be a reliably great shooter, averaging 40% from the three-point line throughout his career.
After the move to the Lakers, Daniels figures to fit in a bench role, where he can either come off of the bench with the reserves and contribute, or help out with any starters. Thanks to his ability to pull up from anywhere and shoot, he can provide great spacing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and should be able to give the Lakers some valuable minutes.
While the Lakers continue to wait on Kawhi Leonard’s decision, the rest of the NBA has begun moving in on other free agents. With Leonard possibly waiting a bit before deciding his future, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the Lakers begin making smaller moves in an effort to fill out their roster.
As more and more players begin to sign, the Lakers run the risk of not being able to field a truly competitive team should Leonard choose elsewhere. With Daniels now on board, this at least provides them with some elite shooting.
