The Oakland Raiders have a new head coach in Jon Gruden. Gruden, however, is someone Raiders fans don’t need to get familiarized with, as he already coached the Raiders for four seasons from 1998-2001. One thing Raiders faithful will have to get used to seeing, though, is Gruden working with Oakland’s colorful running back, Marshawn Lynch.

During Tuesday’s press conference to formally introduce Gruden as the Raiders’ replacement for Jack Del Rio, the 54-year-old head coach expressed his excitement for getting to meet Lynch, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

“You know, I’ve never met Marshawn Lynch. Even as a broadcaster, I asked for Marshawn Lynch in production meetings, and I never got to meet him,” Gruden said

Gruden said he’s anxious to meet the running back because they came to the team for similar reasons “and guys like him interest me.”

Jon Gruden was referring to Lynch’s enthusiasm to play football for Oakland in his return from a short-lived retirement. Like Lynch, Gruden has mentioned his love for the city of Oakland as one of the reasons why he decided to give coaching in the NFL another try. That’s not to mention the reported $100 million contract with the Raiders, of course.

Marshawn Lynch, who has one more season left on his two-year deal he signed with the Raiders in March of last year, led Oakland with 891 rushing yards to go with seven of the Raiders’ 13 total rushing scores this season. Lynch needs help though, as the Raiders finished the regular season just 25th in the league with 97.1 rushing yards per game.
