In a recent interview with SiriusXM NBA Radio, former San Antonio Spurs forward and NBA Champion Stephen Jackson, touched on ex-teammate Steve Kerr, saying it was tough to see him lose in the 2016 NBA Finals.

Jackson admitted that he felt bad for Kerr and wished he could have suited up to “go to war” for him.

When asked which coaches he would go to war with, Jackson only listed off coach Kerr and Mike Brown:

Steve is a guy I'd go to war for anytime. Him and Mike Brown are those guys that they always tell me that ‘Jack, you my guy, you my guy' so those guys I learned from and I wish I could go to war with them everyday because they always have my back.

Jackson and Kerr won an NBA title in 2003 with the Spurs. Both players came up huge in a comeback playoff win that helped the Spurs eliminate the Dallas Mavericks in the 2003 Western Conference finals. A barrage of three-pointers sealed their ticket to the NBA Finals.

Jackson would leave in free agency to join the Atlanta Hawks, before later returning to San Antonio in 2011.

During the 2012-13 season, Jackson and coach Gregg Popovich had a huge disagreement and falling out, which resulted in Jackson being waived just prior to the start of the playoffs.

According to the Express News, Jackson admitted that he fought with Popovich for half the season before the falling out. He posted an Instagram photo after he was released with the caption:

I would never say a player is better than me when I know their (sic) not. Not for no one. #uandiknowwhatsgoingon

Popovich called the release a tough decision, and the team moved forward without any distractions.

That release spelled the beginning of the end of Jackson's career, because he hasn't played much NBA basketball since, sans a brief stint with the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2013-14 season.

Rumors have surfaced that Jackson wants to play for the Warriors, but Golden State reportedly wants him as an assistant coach, so the chatter about going to war just might be his push to land a job under coach Kerr.
