Once the Team USA Basketball minicamp begins next week in Las Vegas, one conspicuous individual could be noted for his absence, and that’s no other than three-time Olympian LeBron James.

According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, while citing sources, the new Los Angeles Lakers forward will not be a participant in the said event.

James, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was in Vegas over the weekend to observe his new team, the Los Angeles Lakers, play a summer league game, but he will not be present for the training camp, which is slated for July 25-27 at UNLV's Mendenhall Center.

James was among the 35 players in the pool of players on Team USA’s list, which was released back in April.

The basketball squad USA will send to Tokyo in 2020 will be coached by Gregg Popovich, who inherits the role from Duke mentor Mike Krzyzewski, who guided the country to three golds in the sport in 2008, 2012, and 2016. Of those three itineraries, James was only absent in the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro.

James was one of the 35 names included in the player pool that the USA Basketball men's national team released in April. From that pool, a 12-man roster will be selected for the 2019 World Cup in China and 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Also included in the pool are the likes of Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, Russell Westbrook, Damian Lillard, and DeMarcus Cousins.

LeBron James has two Olympic gold medals (2008, 2012) and a bronze (2004). He has career averages of 11.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 24 games in the Olympics.
