Karl-Anthony Towns’ incredible season includes many amazing accomplishments, but yesterdays achievement by the Timberwolves star put him atop the franchise in one category.

During the Timberwolves' 135-130 victory over the Washington Wizards on Saturday, Towns posted a 40 point, 16 rebound game. This stat line was Towns’ sixth 40-point, 15-rebound game of his career, passing Kevin Love for the most games with such a stat line in Timberwolves history.

The stat line was just a small part of an incredible season for the young center. After struggling during the early part of the season during the Jimmy Butler drama, Towns was doubted by many. Since then, however, Towns has quickly re-emerged as one of the brightest young stars in the league.

Not only is he averaging 24.5 points and 12.3 rebounds per game, but he’s currently shooting 58 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range on the season. Unfortunately for Towns, his massive efforts haven’t exactly positioned the Wolves to be playoff contenders, as their 31-35 record is good for 10th in the Western Conference.

Despite the poor year for the team, however, Towns is playing every bit like the man that the Timberwolves entrusted with a max contract before the season. Players like Derrick Rose, Josh Okoge, and Tyus Jones all have done well this season, and could be useful players going forward should the Wolves choose to try and keep them. With the Wolves once again likely missing out on a playoff spot, it’ll be interesting to see how they plan on surrounding Towns going forward, as they do have some interesting pieces on the team.
