The Jordan Meme is everywhere and anywhere these days. The reference to the Jordan Meme is almost as famous as the name Jordan on social media for young fans, from hilarious moments in sports to heartbreaking losses, you can always count on someone to post a modified version of this meme either in picture or gif format to send some laughs across the web.
In the video segment below, Jay Williams of ESPN, DJ Gallo of Sportspickle, and Stephan Savoia (the photographer of the original photo) analyze the phenomenon in a conversation of its origin, and what would it take to replace this meme.
It is almost hard to fathom a picture taken from a Hall of Fame ceremony has been plastered into digital infamy like no other. There are thousands and thousands of memes on the internet, but none that stand out like this. It’s become the go-to picture for so many situations in sports these day, that Gallo adequately says:
“There hasn't been an original sports joke for the last two years.”
Williams insists that it would take an embarrassing moment for someone on the level of Floyd Mayweather to displace Crying Jordan as the next big meme:

One thing about sports is tradition. Once something becomes tradition, it’s hard to break that way of doing things. For now, Michael Jordan is king, in more than one way. He doesn’t post on social media or have a twitter account, but not a day goes by where you cannot find a new picture of him crying for some player or team's bad fortune.
