Kevin Durant doesn’t need to be the best player in the world for the Golden State Warriors to be successful, but sometimes he shows that he certainly be that anyway. According to Warriors coach Steve Kerr, he has no doubt that Durant is the best player in the world.

Speaking to the media after their Game 6 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, Kerr heaped praise onto Durant, calling him not only the best player in the world, but “the most skilled player in the world,” crediting his standout play for the win. Durant finished Game 6 with a postseason career-high 50 points, which came one after he set his postseason career-high at 45 in a Game 5 loss.

While many won’t credit Durant with being the best in the world, his postseason play so far certain speaks to it. Throughout the playoffs so far, Durant is averaging 35 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game, all on 56.7 FG%, 40 3PT%, and 94.9 FT%. Even noted defensive player Patrick Beverley gave Durant his due after the loss yesterday.

As the Warriors get ready to play the Houston Rockets once again – this time in the second round – in the postseason, Durant will likely be looked upon to be just as good. With Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson both spraining their ankles last night, it’s anyone’s guess as to just how well their bodies will respond, even if they both say they’ll be ready.

Thankfully, the Warriors contingency plan for such occurrences is to simply rely on one of the games other top tier players, and as Durant has shown in his career with the Warriors, he’s capable of taking his game to an entirely new level when the pressure rises.
