The New York Knicks were notably light at point guard heading into this season, and many believed they would be looking for a significant upgrade at the position in the offseason. However, the midseason acquisition of Derrick Rose helped rectify the point guard problem, which could ultimately lead the Knicks away from chasing that position in free agency. At least that's what some rival teams are thinking.
This report comes from SNY's Ian Begley:
Some teams monitoring the point guard market in free agency believe Derrick Rose’s strong play will factor in to how NYK’s approaches the position this offseason; Nerlens Noel was impacted by ankle injury in Game 2 on Wednesday night: pic.twitter.com/KNXC7P6t0t

Elfrid Payton has been starting at point guard all season but is an obvious weak link. Tom Thibodeau had been giving him less and less playing time before finally benching him in favor of Rose to start the second half of the Knicks' Game 2 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.

Rose has been taking on a heavy burden off the bench, playing nearly 40 minutes each in Games 1 and 2. The veteran has stepped up in a big way, though, hitting a clutch shot in Game 1 and then leading New York with 26 points in Game 2.
The 32-year-old isn't his MVP self at this point, but he can still play and make a positive impact. Instead of throwing around a lot of money to bring in an outside free agent, the Knicks could just bring back Rose on a more reasonable deal and pair him with Immanuel Quickley at the point guard spot. New York could also look to bring in another cheaper option to join Rose and Quickley.
Chris Paul, Kyle Lowry, Mike Conley, Dennis Schroder and Lonzo Ball are the biggest names potentially available at point guard. It would be enticing to go hunting for one of these big fish, but perhaps the Knicks look elsewhere thanks to Rose's resurgence, though they do have to consider his injury history in this situation.
