Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone had a hard time digesting a tough loss against the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, as two former Kentucky Wildcats in starting point guard Jamal Murray and phenom Devin Booker went toe-to-toe against each other.

A 108-100 loss was the sixth in the last eight games, bumping the Nuggets to a mere .500 mark at 23-23 — a good time for a long, hard look in the mirror.

“I asked them, as individuals, when you go to bed tonight and you put your head on that pillow, ask yourself if you gave everything you have. And if you didn't, shame on you,” Malone told reporters after the loss.

“I have to make some changes… I don't like our team right now,” the coach added. “I don't like where we're headed. I don't like how we're playing. I don't like how we're competing on a nightly basis.”

Malone was clearly frustrated with the way his team was playing and with good reason, as they've dropped winnable games against the Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks, L.A. Clippers, and now the Suns.

Those constitute four of their six losses and have played a large role in the team being out of the eighth playoff seed, which now belongs to the surging Clippers, winners of six straight.

Malone assured he will take matters into his own hands, even if it means taking away from his personal life to make it work.

“I’ll probably be a sh*tty husband and father tomorrow,” said Malone. “But I’ll get over it and I will have a lot of reflection on who we are, who we’re trying to be and how can we get there.”
