Hamidou Diallo seems to be appreciate Paul's efforts to help his squad look good.
Paul has given the Thunder more than just a custom tailor this season. He has delivered a spark for a team that most assumed would miss the playoffs this year.
Article Continues BelowThe Thunder were 12-14 entering Wednesday night's game against the Memphis Grizzlies, and as the seventh-best team in the Western Conference, they are indeed in playoff position. Paul has been a major reason for their success.
The 34-year-old has stayed healthy this season en route to averaging 16.2 points, 6.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds through the first 26 games. He has been much more efficient on the offensive end this year, upping his field goal percentage to .466 while averaging under two turnovers per game.
Still, Oklahoma City may look to deal Paul whether or not they can stay in the top eight until February. They are not title contenders, and they would love to move Paul's deal (which could be worth over $85.5 million should he accept his player option in 2021) for more flexible salaries.
But trading Paul might be a difficult task, in part because of his salary as well as the fact that so few teams actually have cap space with which to operate. The Miami Heat could be a trade partner, but they would have to move bad contracts of their own–like Dion Waiters and James Johnson–which the Thunder would seem unlikely to accept.
Whether Paul will be on the move or not, he plans on making sure his current teammates look good.
