Sixers star Ben Simmons did not participate in Monday morning's practice session due to an upper respiratory infection, according to Serena Winters of NBC Sports Philadelphia:

The Sixers are scheduled to face the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. Whether or not Simmons will be available for that game remains to be seen. Jimmy Butler, who has also been dealing with an illness, is expected to return to the lineup.

If Simmons is unable to play against the Wizards, T.J. McConnell would likely see an uptick in his usage rate. McConnell has dished out at least four assists in 12 out of his last 15 games.

Simmons, now 22 years of age, has made 39 appearances with Philly this season, racking up averages of 16.4 points on 57.4 percent shooting from the field, 9.2 rebounds, 7.9 assists, 1.3 steals and just under one block (0.8) in 33.3 minutes per outing.

Simmons logged 36 minutes in Saturday's 106-100 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, scoring 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. It was his sixth triple-double of the season.

“Just being more aggressive, I think, when I take more shots,” Simmons told Philly.com. “They have to play me a different way and I think teams are starting to do that. So it's easier for me to read the defense and just give teams a different look when they're guarding me.”

Tuesday night's Sixers-Wizards game is scheduled to tip inside the Wells Fargo Center at 7:00 p.m. ET. Additional information about Simmons' status should be released after morning shootaround.
