Right now, it looks like Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic is the heavy favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award. However, New York Knicks guard Allonzo Trier is telling us not to sleep on someone else: Deandre Ayton.

In a now-deleted tweet, Trier stumped for the No. 1 overall pick in the coveted Rookie of the Year race.

Of course, there may be some bias here, as both Trier and Ayton are former Arizona Wildcats, but there is no question that Ayton, who plays for the Phoenix Suns, has been terrific this season and also deserves consideration as the top rookie.

On the season, Deandre Ayton is averaging 16.0 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists over 30.6 minutes per game while shooting 58.9 percent from the floor and 76.8 percent from the free-throw line.

The kid has drawn comparisons to David Robinson for a reason. He is a dominant force in the paint, and the fact that he is putting up these numbers as a 20-year-old is incredible.

And as for the Suns? They have been playing much better of late.

After their impressive road win over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night, the Suns have won four straight games, including a showdown between Ayton and Doncic last Thursday.

Phoenix is currently in the middle of a five-game road trip. It will head over to the nation's capital to battle the Washington Wizards on Saturday.
