The ending of Game 2 between the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers was one for the ages as Deandre Ayton won the game off a fantastic inbounds pass by Jae Crowder. However, not everybody was excited about the play, and Suns head coach Monty Williams was stressing and praying during the final seconds, according to Gina Mizell.
“I think God is more concerned with how we deal with both — winning and losing. But I was praying. My shirt was wet and I was just thinking to myself, like Lord, please let me have (this).”
Monty's prayers got answered, apparently. It was marvelous. Crowder's pass barely went by the backboard, and Ayton barely got the ball over Ivica Zubac, and the Suns won the game by one single point to take a commanding 2-0 series lead with a trip to Los Angeles lined up.
Article Continues BelowBut, Monty Williams probably had to ditch his shirt after a bunch of sweat overcame him. If the first two games are indicative of the rest of the series, Williams will be praying a lot more with the Suns just two games away from a trip to the NBA Finals.
Game 3 is Thursday night, and a 3-0 Suns lead would more than likely be too much for the Clippers to overcome.
