Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony passed Alex English on the NBA's all-time scoring list on Monday against the Chicago Bulls.

Anthony entered Monday with 25,590 career points, good for 19th place in NBA history. He passed English, who scored 25,613 during his career.

Melo played in just 10 games with the Houston Rockets last season before the franchise exiled and traded him to the Bulls. The Bulls waived Anthony, who had not received any interest from teams since entering the open market until the Blazers swooped in and signed him last week.

Anthony will effectively cost the Blazers $51,000 per day. He will earn $14,490 per day while he’s on the roster in Portland. The contract becomes fully guaranteed if he is not waived by Jan. 7.

The Blazers were in need of scoring and help in the front court, so this was a good roll of the dice by signing Anthony. The non-guaranteed contract makes it a low-risk proposition as well. We’ll see if Melo makes it past the Jan. 7 guaranteed date. It looks like he will, though, since he's scoring the ball well for the Blazers.

Basketball fans are happy Anthony is back in the NBA. An NBA legend like Melo deserves to end his career on his own terms.
