Portland Trail Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony was in a dark place from a professional standpoint.

Anthony had not played in the NBA in over a year after being cut by the Houston Rockets in November of 2018. And he began to question his skills.

Melo Makes Shocking Revelation

The 35-year-old was the latest guest on teammate C.J. McCollum's ā€œPullupā€ podcast. He stated that he wondered if he was really good enough to play in the NBA after being passed up by teams around the league.

ā€œI started questioning myself why. Why? What happened? What did I do? Did I do something wrong? Was it me? Am I good? Can I still play? It was like all of these thoughts started to come in and that stuck with me for about four, five months.ā€

Carmelo finally got his shot with the Trail Blazers. He signed with Portland this past November in the wake of an injury to Zach Collins.

The deal was initially non-guaranteed, but Melo has since proved he does indeed belong in the league. Carmelo was averaging 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds while starting in all 50 games with the Trail Blazers. They have since guaranteed his contract for the remainder of the season.

Melo had one of his better games of the year prior to the suspension of play due to the coronavirus pandemic. Anthony scored 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting and dished out five assists in a win over the Phoenix Suns on March 10.

The Trail Blazers are currently three-and-a-half games back of the Memphis Grizzlies for the eighth and final playoff spot. Whether they get the chance to contend for that spot is unknown, but they are surely glad to have signed Anthony. The 10-time All-Star has give the team production and crucial minutes throughout the year.
