The Portland Trail Blazers advanced to the Western Conference Finals after beating the Denver Nuggets 100-96 in Game 7 of the second round, thanks to CJ McCollum's stellar performance. McCollum led the Blazers with 37 points and nine rebounds. He also had a clutch block on Nuggets' Jamal Murray late in the fourth quarter. After the game, CJ told reporters that his crucial defensive play was inspired by LeBron James.

“I just went and got it, Bron style. Shout out to my guy Bron from the 330. It was a mini version of Bron's block on Iggy. I definitely didn't get up as high. I might get a picture of that one. Hang that joint up.”

McCollum was referring to LeBron's chase down block on Golden State Warriors' Andre Iguodala during Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals, a play led the Cleveland Cavaliers to the championship.

The Blazers didn't win the title by beating the Nuggets, but they have an opportunity to face the Warriors once again. Portland was eliminated by Golden State in the playoffs in 2016 and 2017, so they are going to be extra motivated in their bid to dethrone the two-time NBA champions.

McCollum will once again play a key role in determining the Blazers' success in the next round. If he will be more consistent on the offensive end, they will have a bigger chance in pulling off an upset. He will also have his hands full defensively, as he will be tasked to guard Warriors' Klay Thompson.

Game 1 of the West finals will be on Tuesday.
