Portland Trail Blazers guards Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum have established themselves as one of the best guard duos in NBA history over the past few seasons.
Both Lillard and McCollum can score with ease, and they usually dominate games together for the Blazers instead of relying on the “my turn, your turn” offensive style some duos lean on.
So just how good of a duo are Lillard and McCollum? Well, they have the most 30-point games as a duo since the NBA/ABA merger back in 1976:
Guard duos with most games of 30+ points each since the merger in 1976 (regular reason + postseason):
1. D. Lillard, C. McCollum…..15
2. S. Curry, K. Thompson……13
2. W. Davis, P. Westphal……13
4. C. Drexler, T. Porter…..9
4. G. Gervin, J. Silas……….9— Jay Allen (@PDXjay) December 21, 2019
There's a reason the Blazers gave Lillard and McCollum extensions this past summer. The ownership in Portland believes in the guards and has no interest in separating the two.
The Blazers, after defeating the Orlando Magic on Friday, are 13-16 on the season. They are currently in the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference standings.
Lillard is averaging 26.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.6 assists this season, while McCollum is putting up 22.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
The Blazers made it to the Western Conference Finals last season, where they got swept by the Golden State Warriors. Portland has a lot of work to do to get back to the top of the West standings, but with Lillard and McCollum leading the way, anything is possible.
