Through the first two games of the Portland Trail Blazers' first round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, point guard Damian Lillard and shooting guard CJ McCollum have been unstoppable.
Lillard is averaging 29.5 points and 5.0 assists while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from the 3-point line. McCollum, meanwhile, is putting up 28.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists and shooting 45.7 percent overall and 42.9 percent from beyond the arc.
The Blazers are up 2-0 against the Thunder and look like a completely different team from the 2018 squad which got swept by the New Orleans Pelicans in the first round of the playoffs.
All season long, Lillard and McCollum talked about how they wanted to atone for what happened in last year's playoffs. It's only two games, but the Blazers' two top players have that look in their eyes that they are coming for the championship.
“We’ve had big moments, but on this stage, I think this is the best we’ve been,” Lillard said, via Jason Quick of The Athletic. “It makes it easier to deal with the pressure when I go out there and he is side-by-side with me. And if it doesn’t work out, we are not going to point the finger and blame each other. We are going to go out together.”
Pundits all over the league said the Blazers had to trade Damian Lillard or CJ McCollum last summer after Portland was swept by the Pelicans.
The two stars heard all the criticism and are motivated to prove they can win together in Portland.
