After a surprisingly successful season for the Portland Trail Blazers, the franchise's top talents will remain there long-term.
A year after giving a maximum deal to superstar point guard Damian Lillard, the Blazers have locked up C.J. McCollum for the next four years.
As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, McCollum and Portland have agreed to a four-year max extension worth $106 million.
Wojnarowski added that the contract has no options, as well as no trade kickers.
After losing four of their five starters from the 2014-15 season, including franchise leader LaMarcus Aldridge, the Blazers reloaded and managed to grab the fifth seed in the Western Conference. Lillard continued to excel, and McCollum rose to the occasion as a starter.
He earned the Most Improved Player of the Year award, jumping from 6.8 points in '15 to 20.8 points per game last season. McCollum also added 4.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals a night.
Article Continues BelowPortland made runs at both Dwight Howard and Chandler Parsons in free agency, but both came up short. That actually might be a good thing, though.
Head coach Terry Stotts, who just signed a three-year extension, has managed to get the most out of his young players. They have a solid group of youthful bigs, led by Mason Plumlee and Meyers Leonard, who have managed, by committee, to run the paint.
They'll continue to develop that culture this year, and if the combo of Lillard and McCollum continues to run up the score sheet, it will be another exciting year in the Pacific Northwest.
