University of Colorado standout Derrick White couldn't hold back the tears after receiving a call from San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, informing him that he was soon-to-be selected by the organization as the 29th overall pick of Thursday's NBA Draft.

White was one of the few prospects drafted in the first round that didn't attend the ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, rather staying home with his friends and family in his native Parker, Colo.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound senior was the oldest player taken in the first round at 23 years of age, boasting averages of 18.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.4 blocks in his last season as a Buffalo.

White is the first player to play at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to make it in the NBA. Shooting an impressive 40 percent from deep and having a belt of defensive tools, it's clear the Spurs are thinking about the future and life after Tony Parker, who suffered a season-ending injury during the playoffs.
