The San Antonio Spurs have been a model basketball organization since Gregg Popovich took over as head coach in 1997. Two years later, the Spurs would win their first championship, thanks to the efforts of Tim Duncan and David Robinson.
However, it wouldn't stop there. The Spurs would go on to win four more championships, even in a surprising match-up against the 2014 Miami Heat team that beat them in the year prior. As a result, Popovich has been ranked consistently as one of the best coaches in NBA history, and the Spurs have become a franchise known for their winning culture.
Apparently, this culture has caught the eye of former U.S. President Barack Obama, who stated that he would sign with the Spurs if he was a free agent, per Cory McCrary of My San Antonio.
“This is an outstanding fantasy,” Obama said. “I am just basking in the scenario. I think it's fair to say that there are organizations in the NBA that may not win every year, they are focused on the team, they treat everybody in the organization with respect. That is the kind of organization that I would want to be a part of. I will say that over the last 15 in basketball, San Antonio would be a great example. There is a little drama popping up right now. If you look at what they've built, its just a smart, well run operation with good culture.”

Popovich would later express his gratitude for those comments, even joking that he would first have to run a background check on Obama if he were to hypothetically sign him.
Pop on Obama saying he'd pick SA if he were a free agent: "That's very flattering. I'd have to do a background check on him, though, bc I've heard some things he's done in the past aren't very good. I can't remember where I heard that stuff, but I'd have to do a background check"

Popovich receiving praise from a former U.S. President is very fitting, especially since he doesn't apparently agree with the Trump Administration and its policies.
