Free agent center Nerlens Noel has agreed to a two-year deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

The defensive-minded center will back-up Steven Adams, now with the chance to opt out of his contract and become a free agent once again in 2019.

Noel had very little playing time with the Dallas Mavericks after suffering a thumb injury this past season and having some conditioning problems back in 2017.

The Mavericks no longer had a need for Noel after they agreed to sign DeAndre Jordan to a one-year deal, likely giving him the keys to the starting center position during Dirk Nowitzki's farewell season.

The Thunder are now slated to improve their depth, having capitalized with yet another aggressive offseason, signing Paul George to a four-year, $137 million max deal, and Jerami Grant to a three-year, $27 million contract afterward.

These signings only lead to spell a potential stretch-and-waive provision that would allow the team to rid itself of Carmelo Anthony, who refuses to come off the bench despite underperforming during his first season with the team.

Noel should bring rebounding and plenty of intangibles as a capable shot-blocker and a thief in the passing lanes, thanks to his long 6-foot-11 frame.
