Coming off an MVP campaign, Oklahoma City Thunder star point guard Russell Westbrook has picked up where he left off putting together another highly productive year through the first couple of weeks.
According to Good_NewsEveryone on Reddit, Westbrook is in fact on a historic pace passing the ball with his assist totals currently well ahead of any other player in league history.
Russell Westbrook is generating 31.9 potential assists per 100 possessions. Nearly 4 more than the highest rate recorded over a full season (Rondo 15-16).

The 28-year-old is currently leading the league with 11.9 assists per game, which is more than two assists than any other player. He has also recorded at least nine assists in each of the first seven games while notching four triple-doubles during that span.
Westbrook's play has been quite encouraging given how he has adjusted with the offseason addition of All-Star forward's Paul George and Carmelo Anthony. His willingness to take up more of a distributor role has allowed for both George and Anthony get off to a strong start to the year averaging 19.6 and 22.6 points respectively. More importantly, it may make them a serious title contender and challengers to the Golden State Warriors.
If Westbrook is able to keep up this pace while leading to the Thunder to one of the best records in the league, he could foreseeably be at the forefront of the MVP conversation once again.
