The Oklahoma City Thunder have always maintained that they want Paul George to stay with the team beyond his one-year rental. The Thunder are being aggressive during this trade market ahead of this week’s trade deadline to entice the All-Star forward to remain with the team beyond his expiring contract.

To that end, The Salt Lake Tribune’s Tony Jones reported that OKC is interested in acquiring the services of Utah Jazz shooting guard Rodney Hood. The team needs additional depth if they want to make a run at the championship this June.

The injury to starting guard Andre Roberson only heightened the urgency knowing what he brings to the table with his defense. It’s not a coincidence that the Thunder’s four-game losing streak have all come without Roberson in the lineup.

The Jazz have elevated rookie Terrance Ferguson to Roberson’s shooting guard spot which has been a learning experience for the young player, to say the least.

Hood is the perfect fit for the Thunder as someone who can fill in the starting guard spot beside All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook. He can shoot the three and play good defense, something he has done while coming off the bench and starting nearly half of the time for the Jazz.

If the Thunder are truly interested in getting him, they have a few other teams to contend with as Jones also reports that the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, Denver Nuggets, and Orlando Magic have all shown interest as well.

Even if they fail to reel him in, you can expect the Thunder to seek out other shooting guards available in the market.
