Toronto Raptors starting point guard Kyle Lowry has been dealing with a lingering back injury for a few weeks now, so the team and its medical staff decided to take some action.

The Raptors announced on Tuesday that Lowry had pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory injections in his back last week in New York. There is currently to timetable for his return to the court.

In 30 games this season for Toronto, Lowry is averaging 14.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game. The four-time All-Star is shooting 43.3 percent from the floor, 32.5 percent from beyond the arc and 84.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The Raptors currently have the best record in the NBA at 27-11. Losing Lowry, though, is understandably a big blow since he is one of the best point guards in the league.

Fred VanVleet will likely start until Lowry returns to the lineup. The three-year pro is averaging 10.2 points per game on the season and shooting 40.3 percent overall and 36.2 percent from the 3-point line.

It's good that the Raptors took care of Lowry's issue now so he can be healthy for the postseason. The rugged defender has also been dealing with a thigh injury, so he'll be able to rest his back and thigh while he's sidelined.
