Utah Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell is expected to receive an invitation to participate in Team USA's training camp ahead of this year's FIBA World Cup, according to a report from Tony Jones of The Athletic.

Although the Jazz were defeated in the first round of the Western Conference Finals, Mitchell enjoyed a productive second year of service in the NBA. The former 13th overall pick made 77 appearances during the 2018-19 regular season (all starts), racking up averages of 23.8 points on 43.2 percent shooting from the field (36.2 percent from beyond the arc), 4.2 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 33.7 minutes per outing.

Team USA will be led by San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. The team already has commitments from several top NBA players, including Charlotte Hornets point guard Kemba Walker. Other players hoping to make the 12-man roster include Houston Rockets guard James Harden and New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis.

USA Basketball officials also have plans of gauging Zion Williamson's interest in filling one of the roster spots for the team, according to Stein. Williamson, a 6-7 forward out of Duke, is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The FIBA World Cup will run from August 31st through September 15th. Team USA will begin training in early August.
