Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz have agreed on a new extension, making him one of the highest-paid players in the NBA. Following his historic extension, Gobert penned a heartfelt letter to Utah, thanking the city for welcoming him since his rookie season.

Besides Gobert's emotional message to fans of the Jazz, Utah's social media team had a video prepared for his extension, narrated by fellow Frenchman Boris Diaw.

On Sunday morning, the Jazz gave Gobert a massive five-year, $205 million extension, which makes him the highest-paid center in the league. With his new deal, Gobert now has the third-largest contract in NBA history, only behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and Russell Westbrook.

Also, the long-term deal comes shortly after the Jazz inked Donovan Mitchell to a multi-year contract. Provided that, Utah now has both of their franchise cornerstones locked into new contracts for the foreseeable future.

Last season, Gobert averaged 15.1 points, along with a career-high 13.5 rebounds, and two blocks per game. Over the course of his seven-year career with the Jazz, Gobert has compiled 11.7 points, 11 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game.

Earlier this week, there were reports that Utah was reluctant to give Gobert a supermax extension. With the center spot becoming a more versatile position, big men like Gobert aren't as valuable as they once were.

Nevertheless, the Jazz felt comfortable enough to make Gobert the highest-paid center in the NBA and one of the highest-paid players in the league in general. While many people are criticizing the deal for Gobert, the French big man is thankful for how he's been treated in Utah. Now it's time for him to show everyone he's worth his paycheck.
