Rudy Gobert would love to remain with the Utah Jazz for the foreseeable future, but he would also love to garner the supermax extension. Despite his desire to earn the supermax, the Jazz have been reluctant to appease his request, per ESPN's Porter Larsen.

Since the end of the 2019-2020 season, Gobert has been seeking the supermax extension, which would pay him 35 percent of Utah's salary cap. On the other hand, the Jazz have countered his proposal by offering him the regular max contract, which is now 30 percent of Utah's salary cap.

Seeing that he's been adamant about getting the supermax, Gobert's camp turned down Utah's counteroffer. With that in mind, the Jazz and Gobert will have until December 22 to agree to a supermax deal.

Of course, while both sides have until the beginning of the season to come to an agreement on a supermax extension, they can negotiate a separate deal at any point in the season.

Gobert is a defensive-minded center that won the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award in the 2017-2018 and the 2018-2019 seasons. Though, with him being a center that is limited on offense, the Jazz are likely hesitant on giving him a deal that gives him nearly as much money as Giannis Antetokounmpo got with the Milwaukee Bucks recently.

Back in June, there were reports that Gobert could be involved in trade talks, only for him to remain in Utah during the offseason. However, if neither side can work out a deal, then trade talks could heat up for the 28-year-old center.
