The Utah Jazz's Rudy Gobert threw down a monster slam dunk over Detroit Pistons big man Andre Drummond. It was rim protector on rim protector crime — truly a sight to see.

Rudy Gobert has always been the most central part, no pun intended, of the Utah Jazz defense. He's always been a Defensive Player of the Year candidate. His gravity as a fierce rim protector impacts the entire defense. Guards simply refuse to drive into the paint when he's there.

So far this season, he's averaged 14.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 65.1 percent from the field. He's currently first in the league in field goal percentage and fifth in blocks per game.

Though many people consider him to be offensively incompetent, he doesn't force shots that aren't there and gets easy baskets using his size and strength in the paint.

For Andre Drummond, he's had a learning curve acclimating to Dwane Casey's offensive scheme as well as playing alongside Blake Griffin. He's a rebounding machine and gets plenty of looks inside, but he still fails to shoot free throws well and often hunts for blocks instead of playing sound defense in the paint.

So far this season Drummond has averaged 16.8 points, 15.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 50.3 percent from the field and only 51.9 percent from the free throw line.

The Pistons are 18-23 and sitting 10th in the Eastern Conference coming into their game, and the Jazz are 23-21 and sitting 8th overall in the West.
