It’s been almost a decade since Andy Enfield and the FGCU (Florida Gulf Coast University) Eagles captivated the nation with an incredible Cinderella run back in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. This time, Enfield will be on the other side when his USC Trojans face his old team Tuesday night in Fort Myers.

Enfield certainly will be feeling plenty of different emotions when he makes his return to his old stomping grounds as the opposing head coach.

Via Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register:

“It was just a weird feeling,” Enfield said. “Sense of pride to be back, but also just different because it’s been so long. But it’s a great feeling.”

The Eagles’ deep run in the 2013 edition of March Madness was one of the greatest moments in college basketball history. Enfield’s FGCU was seeded 15th but managed to take down no. 2 Georgetown Hoyas in the first round and the no. 7 San Diego State Aztecs in the second round before falling prey to the no. 3 Florida Gators in the Sweet Sixteen round.

Enfield would then parlay his success with the Eagles into a lucrative job when he was hired by USC to be its basketball program’s head coach in 2013.

The 25th-ranked USC started the season with consecutive wins over the CSU Northridge Matadors at home and the Temple Owls on the road and will be gunning for a 3-0 start when the Trojans take on the Eagles.
