The Oregon Ducks have been one of college football's hottest teams ever since their humbling defeat against the Georgia Bulldogs in their season opener. Head coach Dan Lanning has transformed the Oregon offense under Heisman-hopeful quarterback Bo Nix into one of the top units in the nation. Amid his success in Eugene, Lanning was asked whether he'd have any consideration of joining Auburn after the program moved on from head coach Bryan Harsin at the end of October.
Via The Athletic, Lanning shot down any rumblings of a move to Auburn, indicating he wanted to stay in Eugene for the long haul.
Oregon coach Dan Lanning shot down rumors that he was interested in taking the head coaching position at Auburn.
“I want to be here in Eugene for as long as Eugene will have me,” he told reporters Monday.https://t.co/BE08laghPf

“I think there’s a little bit of a problem in society today with people looking for what’s next and where there’s an opportunity and the reality is the grass is not always green. In fact, the grass is damn green in Eugene.
“[Oregon]has everything that I could possibly ever want, my family could ever want. I’ve got an 11-year-old that’s lived in eight states. The last thing I ever want to do is leave. I want to enjoy this opportunity here. It’s been a phenomenal place for us, and when you talk about things that align, things that match your vision for what you’re looking for as a head coach, Oregon checks every box for me.”
While the Auburn vacancy is undeniably an enticing gig, Lanning made clear it's not the one for him. Of course, Oregon fans have heard coaches pledge their faith to the program in years past only to leave for “greener pastures” — which often did not turn out to be much greener. Yes, we're looking at you, Willie Taggart, and Mario Cristobal.
Prior to accepting the role to become Oregon's head coach following Cristobal's departure for Miami, Lanning had served on Georgia's coaching staff for four years, including three years as the defensive coordinator. His first game as the Ducks HC was a 49-3 defeat against his former team.
Since then, Oregon has not lost a single game and has scored more than 40 points in every single one of their matchups. With the team cruising right now, Dan Lanning reaffirmed his stance on leaving Eugene, committing himself to the Ducks and Oregon for the foreseeable future.
