The Brooklyn Nets made a huge statement on Saturday night. Brooklyn took care of business against the first place Heat in Miami, winning by a final score of 110-95. During the rout, Nets center Andre Drummond forced a steal with Brooklyn leading by over 20 points. The play led to a breakaway slam for Drummond, who flashed a “peace” sign on his way to the basket.

The Nets have endured a difficult and dramatic season. It began with Kyrie Irving not being able to play. Then James Harden began displaying issues with the team. Irving later returned as a part-time player before recently being reinstated to full time. Kevin Durant also missed a significant chunk of games due to injury.

But their tremendous performance in the contest vs. Miami is a reminder of just how good they can be.

Durant finished the game with 23 points and five assists. Andre Drummond, who started at center, ended the game with a 13 point, 11 rebound double-double. But it was his breakaway dunk combined with the peace sign that stole the show. The play is truly indicative of more than just a cool highlight. Drummond’s gesture is representative of Brooklyn's status right now. They are getting back to full health and climbing the Eastern Conference standings.

As for the Heat, Miami is narrowly clinging to a lead in the East over second place Philadelphia. The Heat had the majority of their stars active for this game and still fell short to Brooklyn at home. This game could be telling of how a potential playoff series between these clubs could end up going.
