There's a lot going on with the Brooklyn Nets right now on the Kyrie Irving front especially after it was reported that the front office is supposedly unwilling to offer the enigmatic point guard a long-term extension. The good news for this team, however, is that Ben Simmons appears to be doing well in his rehab as the former Rookie of the Year looks to be ready for the start of the 2022-23 season.

According to a report by Brian Lewis of the New York Post, things are looking up for Simmons and the Nets at the moment:

Ben Simmons is “progressing well” in his rehab from May 5 back surgery according to a source close to the player. The #Nets star is “is in great spirits” and should be ready in time for training camp.

For Nets fans, this positive Ben Simmons update should soften the blow of potentially losing Kyrie Irving in the near future. Irving currently has a player option for the 2022-23 season (the final year of his contract), which means that if he decides to opt out, then he could walk away this summer as a free agent. If the Nets are indeed unwilling to table an extension, then Irving's exit becomes a real possibility all of a sudden.

If Kyrie actually ends up leaving then Brooklyn fans everywhere can take some comfort in the fact that they'll likely have Ben Simmons as their cornerstone point guard to start the new season.
