The Brooklyn Nets‘ new acquisition, Blake Griffin, will most likely make his debut for the team on Sunday versus the Washington Wizards.

Griffin has noticeably lost a step or two these past few seasons with the Detroit Pistons. It was quite a sad sight to see one of the most electrifying players in NBA history reduced to a 3-point shooter, who quite frankly was not making shots. Suddenly, Griffin's powerful dunks and playmaking were replaced with contested outside shots and weak drives to the basket if at all.

If the Nets even get a fragment of the 2018-19 Blake Griffin, then the signing will prove to be a resounding success. In that season, he averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists a game and was the best version of a Griffin who drastically changed his play style to keep up with the NBA's new direction and to protect his body.

Brooklyn will reportedly use Griffin in a small-ball five role, which is an interesting strategy. However, it must be noted that what their center position needs the most is solid defense. Opposing centers regularly have a field day going against the Nets. It does not exactly mean that the teams of those players have won, but it would be an easily exploitable weakness in the playoffs.

Last Wednesday, Indiana Pacers big man Domantas Sabonis shot 72.7 percent from the field against Brooklyn and had a triple double. To be fair, Sabonis is an All-Star, but what happens when the team goes up against Joel Embiid or Giannis Antetokounmpo?
