When Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant announced that he would like to be traded, nearly every NBA team came into play as potential suitors. Not every team would try to trade for him of course, but nearly every team could talk themselves into attempting to make a move for Durant. He's that talented.

As such, many began to speculate about the Godfather offers that the Nets could potentially receive for the two-time NBA Finals MVP. The Utah Jazz trade of Rudy Gobert, which netted them four future first-round draft picks, among other things, only served to intensify the Durant talks. During an appearance on ESPN's NBA Today, insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Nets want the Durant trade to be historic:

Wojnarowski said that the Nets “think this should look like one of the biggest returns in NBA history.” It's not hard to fault them for thinking that way given the circumstances of Durant hitting the trade market with four years left on his conract.

Reports have suggested that the Nets want one or more All-Star-level players and picks in a Durant trade. That's an exorbitant amount to pay for one player. There is a very real scenario where Durant actually returns to Brooklyn, per Woj:

The man has won the scoring title four times, is a former league MVP, has won two championships and has hoisted the Finals MVP award twice. Kevin Durant quite literally has the ability to arrive on any franchise and immediately better their odds at a championship.

For that kind of player, the return needs to be good. In the Nets' minds, it needs to be historic. If they don't get what they want, the noise continues to get louder that they simply won't trade him.
