Charles Oakley knows how much the New York Knicks' rival grew in stature this summer. The Brooklyn Nets had the best offseason in franchise history when they acquired All-Stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving two weeks ago. Both players signed four-year deals with the team, which will make them legitimate contenders in the East for the foreseeable future.

NBA legend Charles Oakley is happy to see that the Nets have become a powerhouse after being an NBA laughingstock for so long. The Hall of Famer said that Brooklyn hit the jackpot when it got KD and Kyrie.

Although Oakley made a name for himself as a member of the New York Knicks during the 1990s, his relationship with its owner James Dolan is probably irreparable. Even before free agency began, Oakley was already calling out free agents and telling them not to join the Knicks because of how dysfunctional the franchise is at the moment.

Dolan hasn't been able to build a competitive team over the past several years. However, it was believed that they could turn their fortunes around this offseason; multiple reports had indicated that Durant and Irving were heavily favored to sign with the Knicks.

Obviously, that didn't happen.

Oakley's endorsement of the Nets might have meant little to nothing to Durant and Irving, but the fact that they chose that team over the Knicks speaks volumes about the difference in how both teams are being managed.

The Knicks have a core of young talent, but not as goof as either KD or Kyrie.
