Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving hasn't yet received the COVID-19 vaccine, which is one of the biggest stories around the NBA as training camp gets underway. The way things stand right now, Irving won't be able to play home games this season due to New York's vaccine rules.

Irving asked for privacy on the matter when he spoke to the media on a video call for Monday's Media Day. Nets star Kevin Durant said he's not worried about Irving missing games, and a report this week suggested Irving will ultimately get the vaccine because of Durant.

Nets owner Joe Tsai has now weighed in on the matter, and while he respects Irving's view of the situation as a “personal choice issue,” he also implored the star point guard to get the vaccine for the good of the team and its championship goals.

Via Brian Lewis of the New York Post:

“Kyrie talks about it as a sort of personal choice issue, which I respect. But we all need to not forget that our goal, what is our goal this year. What's our purpose this year? It's very, very clear — win a championship. And a championship team needs to have everybody pulling the same direction. So I hope to see Kyrie play fully and win a championship together with everybody else with all his teammates.”

We'll see what Kyrie Irving winds up deciding to do. Not only would he cost the Nets by sitting out, he'd be costing himself a lot of money because players who miss games due to the local mandates won't get paid for missing those games.

Plus, while it was understandable for some initial skepticism on the vaccine, it's simply the right thing to do at this point. Kyrie Irving should just listen to his old teammate, LeBron James, about getting over vaccine skepticism.
