Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving wasn't at Nets Media Day on Monday because of health and safety protocols, but he did speak to the media on a video call. Irving, obviously, was asked about his COVID-19 vaccination status amid the reports of him being unvaccinated and an explosive Rolling Stone report on unvaxxed players.

The Nets point guard essentially gave the same answer each time he was asked a different version of the question, saying he wants his privacy respected and that everything will get worked out:

Irving also claimed he doesn't want to be a distraction:

As it stands, Irving can't play in Nets home games because of New York's COVID-19 rules. Irving suggests this situation is going to get “cleared up” somehow, but he doesn't say how that will happen. Maybe he'll get vaccinated at some point if there are no other options, but as of right now it seems like he might be trying to get an exemption. Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins recently failed in his bid to get a religious exemption.

For what it's worth, Kevin Durant isn't currently worried about Irving's status, while James Harden deflected when he was asked. The Nets are trying to keep cool vibes right now, but we'll see what happens if the regular season gets here and there's no resolution.
