Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant being forced out mid-game against the Toronto Raptors has to be one of the most confusing situations in an already bizarre 2020-21 campaign.

A lot of fans and pundits are puzzled by the whole ordeal, as KD was initially scratched off before tip-off due to the league's health and safety protocols for COVID-19. However, he was permitted to suit up for the Nets and played 19 minutes at Barclays Center before being taken out of the game for good in the fourth period.

In light of the bewildering situation, the NBA released a statement about the whole fiasco, as relayed by the Shams Charania of The Athletic.

To be perfectly clear, Kevin Durant's results came back negative in all the three tests he took over the last 24 hours. However, one person Durant interacted with in the afternoon before the game. The positive result only came back during the game, which explains why KD was still allowed to play after the contact tracing before being eventually pulled out mid-game just for caution.

The stricter health and safety protocols have already created a confusing atmosphere for everyone in the league. The latest gaffe involving Durant is another cause for concern, considering he was already in close contact with Nets and Raptors players during the 19 minutes he spent on the floor.

Other NBA players like Trae Young and CJ McCollum have already questioned the league's decision-making in handling Durant's results. The Nets eventually lost to the Raptors, 123-117. It remains unclear what the ramifications of KD's test will be for both teams involved.
