Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant won't be able to attend the NBA 75th Anniversary Team ceremony during the All-Star Game on Sunday due to a death in the family.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Durant's grandmother passed away Sunday morning. KD's mother Wanda Durant confirmed the sad news, and so the Nets forward decided to skip the NBA All-Star ceremony to mourn the loss.

The NBA is scheduled to honor its 75th Anniversary Team–the 75 greatest players in NBA history–during the halftime of the All-Star Game at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland. Kevin Durant made the list alongside his Nets head coach Steve Nash and former teammate James Harden, who is now with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Durant was also selected to be an All-Star and was voted as the captain of his team. Unfortunately, he has been sidelined due to a sprained MCL, forcing him to back out of the game. He was replaced by Jayson Tatum as a starter for the contest against Team LeBron.

It is truly an unfortunate turn of events. For now, all fans can do is give Durant and his family the privacy they need as they mourn the loss of a loved one.
