Kyrie Irving, who recently told reporters he told the Brooklyn Nets he'd be bringing a few friends with him, explained when he first made contact with Kevin Durant and DeAndre Jordan during the first press conference of the season on Friday.
The Nets new point guard cited the early morning of June 30 was when he first reached out to Durant and Jordan, during the first day of free agency.
This statement seems like a way to avoid a potential fine from the league office, as the new anti-tampering rules and fines negotiated with the Board of Governors have been put in use, even for events that took place in the past.

To be clear, these new implementations by the league office were not in place before the start of free agency, but Irving is potentially trying to watch his back in case the NBA comes knocking. Irving was seen having conversations with Durant during and after the All-Star Game, and given their rapport as “best friends” it's hard to believe the two didn't talk about potentially joining forces before June 30.
There are also previous reports suggesting Jordan had already heard whispers from Irving about potentially moving across the bridge, leaving a team he likely had no future with in the New York Knicks and trading it for a better one only a drive away.
However Irving happened to pull the trigger, he did so efficiently, getting the Nets to quickly put together sound offers for him and his friends in the midst of a fast and furious free agent frenzy.
