The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly trying to get ESPN basketball analyst Jeff Van Gundy to be an assistant coach on Steve Nash's staff, per Shams Charania of Stadium.
Van Gundy has coached the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets before and he was under consideration for the Nets job before Nash was hired.

Brooklyn shocked the entire NBA world when they hired Steve Nash as their new head coach. The two-time MVP and Hall of Famer has zero coaching experience on his belt, so many pundits were stunned by the Nets' move.
However, Brooklyn superstar forward Kevin Durant has a very close relationship with Nash, as does general manager Sean Marks.
Now, odds are Jeff Van Gundy isn't going to leave his cozy ESPN gig to be an assistant coach on the Nets since he's been a head coach in the NBA before and had success. However, it can hurt Brooklyn to try.
After all, the Nets would be wise to get as many experienced basketball minds on Nash's staff since the former Phoenix Suns superstar point guard has never coached on any level.
The Nets are expected to compete for a championship next season with Durant and All-Star guard Kyrie Irving leading the way. Brooklyn also has a solid supporting cast around Durant and Irving, headlined by Caris LeVert, DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie and Jarrett Allen.
