A few days prior to the 2017 NBA Draft, the Brooklyn Nets made the splash move to acquire third-year guard D'Angelo Russell from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for former All-Star center Brook Lopez.

Also brought aboard from the Lakers in that deal was veteran big man Timofey Mozgov, who recently stated in an interview with TASS writer Andrey Kartashov that he believes Russell is in store for a huge season as a scorer.

“He’s going to shoot threes a lot because he’s a really, really good shooter first of all. He’s really talented and I hope he’s going to feed me.”

Russell has an opportunity to step into a prominent role with the Nets next season as their likely top scoring option. This should set the table for him to see a significant increase in his shot attempts per game while showing that he can lead a team to success behind his play.

The 21-year-old struggled to find a consistent role with the Lakers in his first two seasons in the league as he also faced serious questions concerning his work ethic and maturity level. This, along with the team's struggles on the court, only compounded the situation.

However, D'Angelo Russell has a fresh new start with the Nets that could allow him to expand greatly on his individual game while silencing the critics starting with his leadership skills.
