The Detroit Lions have maintained that they are committed to Matthew Stafford under center, but that doesn't necessarily mean they won't consider a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Lions have held multiple meetings with Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and Oregon's Justin Herbert, both of whom are expected to be top-10 picks later this month.

Stafford is 32 years old and is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he was limited to just eight games due to a back injury. However, when he was on the field, he was terrific, throwing for 2,499 yards, 19 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 64.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 106.

Given that Stafford clearly has a lot left in the tank and that ownership wants to win now, it seems odd that the Lions would take a signal-caller so early, but perhaps Detroit is either worried about Stafford's health moving forward or feels that one of Tagovailoa or Herbert is a can't-miss prospect.

Herbert, in particular, has been climbing up draft boards recently, while some have actually soured on Tagovailoa as a result of his checkered injury history.

The Lions have holes up and down the roster and are in particular need of help on the defensive side of the ball, which is why many have speculated that they will end up taking Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah with the No. 3 pick.

But maybe Detroit will end up selecting Stafford's successor. We'll find out on April 23.
