Last week, the Tennessee Titans made the decision to part ways with former Pro Bowl running back DeMarco Murray after just two years with the team. This has immediately placed him on the open market only a few days prior to the start of the free agency period.

It has presented Murray with the opportunity to choose his next landing spot in the NFL for just the second time in his NFL career. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the 30-year-old is reportedly set to make his first visit with a scheduled meeting with the Detroit Lions on Monday.

The Lions are one of the teams in the league that have a pressing need to address their backfield as the team has lacked a true rushing attack over the last few seasons. This has shifted more of the responsibility onto Pro Bowl quarterback Matthew Stafford's shoulder to lead the team to success.

Detriot had finished this past season last in rushing, which has been the case in two out of the last three years and four times overall since Hall of Famer Barry Sanders retired back in 1999. On top of that, the team has yet to have a running back garner 1,000 rushing yards since Reggie Bush did so back in the 2013 season and hasn't had a player rush for 100 yards in 68 straight games. In the last couple of years, Ameer Abdullah has struggled to show consistency in the ground attack that would warrant confidence he could finally break through.

Meanwhile, the addition of Murray would be a huge step in the right direction given that he has run for more than 1,000 yards three times in his seven-year career. But it should be noted that he is coming off the least productive campaign of his career posting career lows with 659 rushing yards on just 3.6 yards per carry in 15 games played. He rushed for more than 100 yards once while failing to break 70 yards in every other game. His season was cut abruptly short due to a torn MCL in his right knee that he suffered in Week 16 against the Los Angeles Rams.

There are certainly some risks involved with this possible move for the Lions, but it could certainly bring aboard more stability in the running with a proven asset. This change of scenery could work wonders as it could mark a bounce-back 2018 if he does decide to join Detroit.
